1. Information on this website
Everything on this website, including service descriptions, articles, tips and answers to questions, is general information only. It is not a diagnosis, a treatment plan or medical advice for your individual situation, and it should not be relied on instead of advice from a qualified doctor.
2. Check with your doctor first if you
- are pregnant or think you may be pregnant;
- have heart disease, high or low blood pressure, a pacemaker, or a history of blood clots or deep vein thrombosis;
- have diabetes, epilepsy, cancer, a bleeding disorder, osteoporosis, or take blood-thinning medication;
- have had recent surgery, a fracture, a sprain or any acute injury;
- have a fever, infection, skin condition, open wound, burn or recent scar in the area to be treated;
- have metal implants, plates or pins (relevant to TENS, ultrasound and some heat treatments);
- have a fear of needles or of water, or any condition that affects your breathing or balance.
These conditions don't always rule out treatment, but your therapist needs to know about them, and some treatments may need to be changed or avoided.
3. Possible effects of treatment
Our therapists work carefully and adapt each session to you. Even so, every hands-on or equipment-based treatment carries some risk. By booking, you understand that you may experience:
| Treatment | Possible effects |
|---|---|
| Massage (holistic, deep tissue, trigger point, myofascial, sports) | Temporary soreness or stiffness for 1 to 2 days, mild bruising, tiredness, light-headedness, or a reaction to oils. |
| Hot stone therapy | Skin redness or, rarely, a burn if heat sensitivity is reduced. Tell your therapist straight away if a stone feels too hot. |
| Cupping and electric cupping | Circular marks or bruising that usually fade within 3 to 10 days, temporary tenderness or skin sensitivity. |
| Dry needling | Soreness, small bruises or minor bleeding where needles were placed, temporary tiredness or light-headedness; rarely, fainting or a more serious complication such as a punctured lung when needling over the chest wall. |
| TENS and ultrasound | Tingling, skin irritation under the pads or mild heat sensation. Not suitable over a pacemaker, on the front of the neck, or over the abdomen in pregnancy. |
| Infrared light therapy | Warmth, temporary skin redness; rarely, irritation in heat-sensitive skin. Do not look directly into the light. |
| Physical therapy and exercise | Muscle soreness, fatigue, or a temporary increase in symptoms while the body adapts. |
| Hydrotherapy and aquatic exercise | Slips on wet surfaces, fatigue, dizziness when leaving warm water, skin or eye irritation from pool water; very rarely, near-drowning. |
Tell your therapist at once if anything feels wrong. You can ask to change or stop any treatment at any time, and we will stop if we believe it is not safe to continue.
4. Water activities: swimming lessons, lifeguard services and outdoor water
- All water activities carry a risk of injury and drowning, even with qualified supervision.
- Lifeguards and coaches reduce this risk but cannot remove it. Parents and guardians must supervise their children around water at all times, including at events where a lifeguard is present.
- Natural water (rivers, waterfalls, plunge pools) can have currents, hidden rocks, sudden depth changes and cold water. Only enter where and when the lifeguard says it is safe.
- Do not swim after drinking alcohol, after a heavy meal, or if you feel unwell.
5. Your part in staying safe
- Fill in the New Client Form honestly and completely, and tell us about any change in your health before each session.
- Follow the advice and home exercises your therapist gives you, and stop and contact us if something hurts.
- Drink water after massage and exercise, and avoid strenuous activity immediately after deep tissue work, cupping or dry needling.
6. Acknowledgement and assumption of risk
By booking a service or completing our New Client Form, you confirm that you have read this disclaimer, that you have had the chance to ask questions, that the information you gave us is true and complete, and that you voluntarily accept the inherent risks of the services you choose. You agree that Hydrokinetic Therapy is not responsible for any harm that results from information you withheld or gave incorrectly, or from not following our instructions.
This acknowledgement does not limit any rights you have under Kenyan law that cannot be excluded, including our responsibility for harm caused by our own negligence. Our full terms are in our Terms & Conditions.
7. Results
Everyone responds differently. We do not promise or guarantee any particular result, recovery time or level of pain relief. Any examples, reviews or photos on this website show individual experiences, not a guaranteed outcome.
